iPod liberation
When presented with the new brand called Geneva a couple of years ago, we were dismissive. Who, after all, is going to want to spend proper money on an over-sized iPod dock?
We were, it seems, more off our heads than they were. People have been buying them from posh furniture shops. When a local customer enthused about a Geneva XL (not inexpensive and HUGE) that she had seen in London, we had to take it seriously. The appeal, you see, had been the sound, not just the funky 'statement' looks.
For most normal folks, the L represents a disturbingly valid alternative to a hifi system. We have one on permanent demonstration and it plays music with bass, clarity and imaging that makes people giggle. Really! Large enough to deliver 'party' levels and walloping bass and just about light enough to take outside to play on the patio.
Below the 'L' comes the 'M' (medium), 'S' (indeed it is) and above come the afforementioned XL and the epic XXL, which is basically an active sideboard that allows for ipod and radio audio in addition to very 3d audio for the large format TV of your choice that can be situated on top.
The new baby of the range, 'S', has been taking the gadget world by storm.
The appeal is at so many levels. There is the rotating powered iPod dock (rolls away when you remove the 'pod), the touch control that mimics the iPod itself which magically appears through the top panel when you touch the little indent. Best of all is the sound quality. It appears to defy physics and seems to be more than a match for a certain airship. Built-in FM tuner with clock / radio functions too, by the way.
